Everyone’s favourite (read my favourite) pop up/permanent mall in Shoreditch has gone live with a virtual marketplace. It’s a partnership with PayPal and Magento (all eBay Inc) to provide retailers and customers with an omni-channel experience (wanky word for seamless online and offline shopping).
It’s boasting retail across web, mobile and in-store: online marketplace with the Magento-powered virtual storefront, mobile app to engage with people across multiple points in the shopping process and an integrated iPad POS system.
Essentially, it’s allowing smaller retailers a step up into an omni-channel offering. PayPal has been wanting to play in the small biz space for a while, especially after the success of AMEX’s Small Business Saturday’s in the US. It could be a taste of things to come.
